Week 2: Letting Go of the New Year Pressure (Especially as a Parent)

January can feel loud with expectations—especially for parents.

We’re told to be more present, more organized, healthier, calmer, and somehow still focused on our own growth. As a single parent, I’ve felt that pressure deeply. And every year I tried to live up to it, I burned out.

From lived experience, I’ve learned that pressure doesn’t create lasting change—safety does.

Instead of asking myself, “What should I fix?” I now ask:

“What actually supports me and my child right now?”

Sometimes that means fewer goals. Sometimes it means simplifying routines. Sometimes it means choosing emotional stability over self-improvement projects.

Winter is not a season for forcing growth—especially while parenting. It’s a season for stabilizing.

Letting go of New Year pressure doesn’t mean giving up. It means choosing sustainability—for yourself and for your family.
